We are looking for 5 international students to join us in Sosei Partners (Urahoro), co-organized with RELATION Inc.

The trip to Urahoro will be 12th ~ 17th September, 2017.

Application Deadline: 10 July 2017

Requirements for Participation:

1) Fully understand the purpose of this project,

2) Must be able to participate in the entire course of the project, including the pre- and post-trip meetings,

3) Fluent in either English or Japanese.

The main language for communication and discussion will be English. However, interactions with the locals and visits to local regions will be in Japanese, with English interpretation provided. You don't have to be a native speaker of English or Japanese, as long as you are willing to communicate your ideas.

Participants with specialized skills such as graphic/ web design, photography/ videography skills will be given priority.

This project includes the following three phases.

Phase 1: Learning and Brainstorming

We will spend a day learning about the current trends in Japan, such as the tourism boom and revitalization movement, as well as the background of rural Hokkaido, especially Urahoro, which is our main destination for this project. We will then brainstorm ideas on how we can redesign rural Hokkaido with Urahoro as a case study, so as to reinterpret the allures and beauties of Hokkaido beyond the current stereotypes. This will take place in Tokyo. If you don’t live in Tokyo, you can join us through Skype.

The day will be decided on a later date, but it will fall somewhere between end of July to the beginning of August.

Phase 2: Enjoying and Interacting

We will spend six days in Urahoro, experiencing local activities such as soba-making, visiting the beautiful beaches, interacting with the local residents and discussing new ideas. We will also be taking photos and writing articles on this town, so as to promote its tourism in a different way.

This trip will take place between 12 to 17 September 2017. Accommodation and meals will be fully covered, but you will have to pay for the domestic flight tickets (round trip from Tokyo: about 30,000 yen) and travel insurance (less than 1000 yen). More of this will be discussed once your participation is confirmed.

Phase 3: Reflecting and Moving On

After the six days in Hokkaido, we will reflect upon the trip, summarize our trip and move on to the next step- to compile this information in a coherent way on our website and Facebook page.

Please refer to our previous projects in Shimokawa and Yame to get a clearer idea.
